Education & Teaching Program LHVPE-09

Volunteer position description

This Project is being realized together with the families on the islands and the local primary school called La Soledad. The volunteers work together with the families monitoring the plants that have been introduced in the area. The volunteers will try to incentive the families to sow local vegetation in their gardens instead of mainland crops, and this way showing them that local plants are as good as mainland crops and plants to decore their gardens. Besides volunteers will help families collecting the fruits from the communitarian hacienda, which are being used to take to the INNFA dining room (a government’s institution that protects and helps poor children and families) were they are provided with free meals.  This way the volunteers can spend time with the children of low resources. Also they will sow local plants with the children, explaining the value of food and care for nature.

The second part of this project consists in helping at the local school. The children assist to English classes, and the volunteers can help with that depending on their (study) background and native language. If volunteers have any special skills they can participate more actively and direct classes themselves.  Last but not least, volunteers will join and coordinate walks around the island, so the children can exercise, breathe fresh air and learn about nature.
